Irish Gaelic for “without fiddle”

Gan Fiddle was formed in 2005 by Kenny Tweedy and Chip Ueltschey. Kenny and Chip have been playing for years at the Irish session at B.D Riley’s on 6^th Street. They started playing together in the summer of 2004 with the idea doing something unusual in the Austin Irish scene—An Instrumental Irish band without a fiddle. Just a couple of pickers cranking out the tunes.

Kenny brings his banjo groove to a multitude of traditional Irish tunes, giving his own finesse to the music. Chip lays down unconventional syncopations to infuse the tunes with new funkiness and soul.

Together, they redefine traditional Irish music to imply something modern and energetic.
